Choir Manager

Sue hails from England, moving to New Zealand with her Kiwi husband in 2008. She gained a Bachelor of Music Honours Degree from London University, specialising in performance on clarinet and piano and composition, and has a PostGraduate in Music Education. Starting out as an itinerant teacher she soon became a secondary school Director of Music and says that one of the best oppotunities to come out of that was to spend a year in Australia as part of a teacher exchange.
Some people thought she was brave, some stupid, when Sue decided to retire early from teaching to become an arts educationalist/manager. She now devises creative projects for young people and community groups involving music, drama, art and dance. She has worked for various London orchestras and most recently spent several years as the Orchestra Education Manager at the Royal Opera House (ROH) in Covent Garden. Besides working primarily with the ROH Orchestra, she also worked closely with the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera.
Since moving to Christchurch Sue has been bringing up two “little poppers”, leading preschool music workshops, managing education projects and devising children’s concerts for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as a board member for a local community preschool and has devised a project for the Christchurch School of Music as part of 'KidsFest'. Two years ago Sue co-established a new chamber orchestra, the Resonance Ensemble, which she manages in her "spare time"!
As well as being passionate about music education, she also enjoys playing and watching tennis, travelling, contemporary dance and Boy George!
